If you’re a member of the Boone County Facebook page, you’ve seen several posts about the land being cleared near the airport.  Neighbors want to know what is happening and what will become of the hundreds of acres of land near Aero Parkway and Kentucky 18.

Crews are actively clearing the area to make way for the new Amazon Air Cargo Hub.  It’s expected to bring 2,700 jobs. The Cincinnati Business Courier just provided an exclusive update on the $1.5 billion project.  The Courier reports Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. of Baltimore, MD and Kokosing Construction Co. Inc. of Westerville, OH will be the contracting team working on the first part of the project.

The work you are seeing now is beginning on the southern portion of the more than 500 acres being developed.  The Courier reports the first phase is expected to include a new ramp for aircraft parking, car parking lots and a sortation building along with airport and local roadway improvements.  It’s expected to be completed in late 2021.

When all phases are completed, Amazon is expected to have a 3 million-square-foot building, 100 plus aircraft parking positions and more than 200 daily takeoffs and landings.  You can learn more about the project through the Business Courier’s website here.
